Blackout

Internet cafes were closed down. Both MPT ISP and Myanmar Teleport ISP cut down internet access in Yangon and Mandalay since this morning. The Junta try to prevent more videos, photographs and information about their violent crackdown getting out. I got a news from my friends that last night some militray guys searched office computers from Traders and Sakura Tower building. Most of the downtown movement photos were took from office rooms of those high buildings. GSM phone lines and some land lines were also cut out and very diffficult to contact even in local. GSM short message sending service is not working also. Burma is blacked out now!

  1. dear soldiers and policemen of the burmese military regime,

you are checking these site in order to check out and look for "dissidents"
    .... chasing them?
    ....but why?
you really have thought about what you are doing here?
do you think things going right.... for you, your country, your people?
don't you think it could be better?
all these demonstrators in your country doesn't matter they could be killed
    by you, soldier.
they have become free of fear only to fight for a better future of all
others, their children, their family and friends.
what's about your family and friends. don't they earn a better future?
policeman, loose your fear, support your people.

... you could be the person
    ... who changes the situation...
... who moves for food, peace and better life for all of you.

you really think it's a good way to beat monks, praying in their monastaries?
you are supporting a hand full of men, living in wealth,
repressing you and the people in your country.
... take the chance, there are more supporters around you than you think right now.
my best wishes for your peacefully future in freedom.

  3. In my opinion the US should help you, but I don't think that your country has enough oil, so you will have to struggle for democracy on your own.

In Iraq the situation is different. The people don't want the "US Democracy", but the US needs their oil, thats why they get "help".

Hoping and praying the best for you, take care of yourself.

    Greetings,
    Muty

  14. Great post! Good wordspreading! A very scary situation.

Hang in there, most everybody in the world is behind you 100%.

Bush slammed the rulers of Myanmar in his UN speech earlier this week.

If the USA went in, they would get everybody screaming in protest.

The UN must do something, but they never use military force to fight.
    That is a huge problem.

Illegal drug fortunes are at the heart of this.

    absurd thought -
    God of the Universe wants
    complete narco states

    criminals in power
    loving the corrupt drug war

    absurd thought -
    God of the Universe says
    shoot peaceful protesters

    calling for democracy
    which you must never allow

  19. Hello,

I am Michael from Germany. Today your Blog adress is shown on Germany's No.1 news website - everybody is able to read your first hand news!
The job you do is terrific!
We cannot imagine what risks you have to take, but be aware that so many people here follow what is happening in Burma right now!
Especially we Germans know from our peaceful revolution in 1989 how powerful slogans like "We are the people!" and "No violence!" sound spoken from thousends of people.
I know Yangon and I've also been to Mandalay. I've seen the monasteries, spoke with monks and know how you have to live.
I feel helpless, admire your peaceful resistance.
How can we support you but follow your revolution?
Freedom of opinion and freedom of demonstration are human rights. They are your rights!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!
    Yours Micha

  20. I am writing from San Francisco (USA). I have only recently become aware of what is happening. I appreciate your blog; please keep the info coming as best you can. The courageous actions of the monks has pierced through the usual media fog and gained the world's attention. I think this will bear fruit.

The local buddhist community here in San Fransico is starting to organize actions. Yesterday, there was a protest at the Chinese consulate. A local buddhist has set up a blog to track local actions.

I hope people of all beliefs in other communities will do the same -- organize actions and setup blogs or web sites to tell the world about it!

    Peace and solidarity.

  23. Dear all

I hope that the protest can have succeed in changing Burma and avoid ending like in the tragic 1988.
However, reading different posts and also articles in newspapers I have noticed that there is little or none information about the terrible conditions of the Burmese Muslim minority. I hope that this revolution can bring freedom and justice to them as well.
I have written, if you are interested, a post on the topic
    Best wishes

  31. I am Carlos from the Philippines. Filipino Catholic priest Fr. Ferdinand Hernando OAR used to be the Rector of the Augustinian Recollect Novitiate in Antipolo City, near Manila, the Philippines. I received this SMS from him via a friend just this morning regarding the recently crushed peaceful revolution in Burma / Myanmar:

"FROM A BURMESE PRIEST: Dear All. Pls pray for Burma. Dey already killed more than 10,000 monks & those injured were cremated alive to give lesson to people in the west. It's hell now here. People are helpless & have nowhere to turn to. No immediate solution. Pls help us & forward this txt to anyone u wish. Pls wear red for bloodshed in Burma. Our government is a terrorist government. Pls pray for us. Thank you."

Apparently the goons of Than Shwe are massacring on an even worse scale than 1988.

I'm here on the other side of the world but I'll be doing what I can to express my own outrage towards the situation. In my opinion, the TV channels should have just refused to broadcast the Olympics. If enough did, I'm sure China would have gone ahead anyway, but at least they would feel like outcasts of some sort.
