We need direct actions from UN

I heard Burma issue is being discussed at the UN Security Council meeting today. I got no news about the outcome of the meeting yet.

Throughout the past 15 years or so, UN sent representatives to solve national reconciliation in Myanmar. But all the efforts these representatives made were in vain since the Burmese dictator is not willing to move a step towards national reconciliation. Sanctions were made by US and EU but made no difference for more than a decade.

The number of political prisoners is around 1400 and still increasing rapidly these days. National leader Daw Aung San Su Kyi was under house arrest since 2003. Some of elected representatives of 1990 election were in jail or exile.  They restrict all the activities of NLD party and keep arresting party members. And, according to confirmed news, five monks died after yesterday's clashes.

So, what will be next after this UN Security Council meeting? We, the people of Burma, need direct actions from UN. A possibility could be deploying UN peace keeping troops and help establishing interim government.

  1. It were to the greatest shame for the human race if your 100% justified uprising would be crashed.
I am no way anti-chinese, but if those asshead-generals will stay in "office", I am all for boycotting the 2008 olympics, unless China stops all support for the generals.

All the very most best in ur effort

  5. The whole world is watching the events in Burma. From 1988 to 2007, it has been and will continue to be a long road towards peace and freedom if the world does not help. I do not agree with China's stance that what's happening in Burma is an internal affair. We live in a global village, in an englightened age. Dictators must be called to account to the people they brutalized. If the people are not given the means to bring down despotic regimes, then the world community must act in one accord. Look at what happened in Kosovo, Mogadishu, East Timor, Darfur and other places. The international community MUST act. If the Burmese junta does not hear the voice of reason then they must be met with force from the international community in the form of UN-mandated military force to restore peace, order and freedom.

  6. The U.N. Security Council on Wednesday urged Myanmar to admit a top U.N. envoy immediately, but China immediately ruled out calls for sanctions or a U.N. condemnation of the ruling junta's use of force.

Around the world peoples are watching (this is Switzerland) what's going on in Birma. Pls try to keep us informed, we do our best to pressure politicians in our countries.
