Post-it note program

Do you use sticky note and post-it note programs? If you do not use, you should use this small program called "Quick Notes".

For those who don't know the post-it note programs, let me explain a little bit. It is like real post-it note papers. You can write small notes on it and you don’t need to save it when you shut down your PC. When you run that program next time, the notes u wrote will still be there.

Actually, there are many programs like this. There are some in "Yahoo Widgets" (Konfabulator) which are really awesome. But this “Quick Notes" is so simple and light. I have been using this small program since long time ago and I even made a skin with matrix theme.

PS: I removed other skins to reduce file size. But the skin I made is the best. Trust me. :P

December 5, 2006 - Thandar Shwe, daughter of Senior General Than Shwe, head of Burma's military junta gave birth to a baby girl yesterday, five months after an ostentatious marriage, a reliable source told Mizzima.

Thandar Shwe aka Ma Pauk, wife of army Major Zaw Phyo Win gave birth to a girl at the Burma No.2 Military Hospital in Mingalardon on Monday just about five months after the couple had a multi-million dollar wedding in Rangoon and Naypyidaw.

The leader of military ruled Burma, Than Shwe, known to be a conservative person was reportedly furious at his daughter's pregnancy before marriage.

At the extravagant wedding of Thandar Shwe, a staff of the Foreign Ministry in July, she reportedly received $ 50 million worth of wedding gifts which included houses, cars and jewellery though the invitations said "No presents please".

That Than Shwe, was reportedly angry about Thandar Shwe's pre-marriage pregnancy has been the subject of gossip too.

However, "Than Shwe will visit the newly born princess", said the source.

Burma in Dark Age

I heard wedding video of Than Shwe’s daughter is circulating among people here. And it was also on YouTube until yesterday. People of Myanmar want to watch that video because we want to see how dictator Than Shwe and his family is wasting country’s money as their own wealth and how they were accepting bribe as “wedding gift”.

According to NDD report, the value of all wedding gifts they’ve got was around 50 million US dollars. These gifts include diamonds and other jewelries, real estate and buildings and cars and so on. And people stunned watching too much jewelries bride was wearing.

You know what. Some poor people in Burma cannot afford to eat normal meal with rice, meat, vegetable and soup like that but they can only eat “rice soup” (rice gruel). When some shops in suburb area start to sell “rice soup” (rice gruel), authorities ordered no to sell fearing international media would notice this poverty.

Are we in 21st century or Dark Age?

Flood around Mandalay and Kyauksae

The region around Mandalay is flooded due to heavy rain these days. After very heavy rain on the night of October 8, Nga-pyaung dam was broken and villages in Kyauk-sae Township were flooded severely according to the news I got from people living there. The condition over there is pretty bad but no rescue for the people was made by authorities. In Yay-won village, water level is around 15 feet and all (one storied) houses are under water now. It was said that more than 150 people are still missing. The flood is getting worse after excess water level in Kin-Dar dam was released the next day.

In Mandalay, suburb area was flooded last week due to water stored unnecessarily in Taung-thaman Lake and released water from Sae-daw-gyi dam.

No news about flood is allowed to release by media and people in Yangon got no information about that.
If you turn on TV accidentally, you would see members of National Convention lying shamelessly.

Please read the following for updated news. Myit-nge, Kyaut-sae, Myittha and other towns towards the south until Make-Htee-Lar  is still flooded. There is still not enough rescue yet :(

Blogger highlight: Generation96

I couldn’t surf the web much these days and thus I couldn’t reach all new Myanmar blogs. Today I reached to Generation96 blog after roaming 7monkeys’ blog. Generation96 is quite a new blog created last month. You can read detail description of 1996 September Students uprising at that blog. I’m thankful to Generation96 blogger for writing the true history. Until now there are four posts with description of day by day events. I think it is to be continued.

Very soon after the US car left, the army sent open trucks right beside us. Another row of soldiers were set up in front of the trucks. The riot police were sent to guard our left, which actually was nothing but a pavement and the wall which we were no fool to climb upon. The back row was took over by the army and another row of soldiers coming down in front of us and stood just a step before our front line. The situation was pretty bad. We shifted all the girls in the center and all the big guys at the far ends. I was on the third row from the right. It was now us, the line of soldiers, the trucks, and the line of soldiers. Every single soldiers was equipped the same and standing a step away from us.

Release them!!!

I'm so worried for the 88 generation student leaders, (ko) Min Ko Naing, (ko) Ko Ko Gyi and (ko) Htay Kywe, who were detained on 27th if Junta would arrest them for long time. Previously they were detained for 15 years. I wish they would be released soon.

I’m saddened to learn that two more student leaders, (ko) Min Zeya and (ko) Pyone Cho, were detained yesterday. Nothing about why they were detained is still not known.

No electricity in Yangon

I know. I didn't update my blog for many days. It is all because of electric power outage in Yangon. Today is the forth day of blackout. The whole street is in complete chaos with noisy electric generators.

Rumour said that electricity was transferred to so-called National Convention about to be held at Nyaung-Na-Pin. It was also said that there will be no electricity except midnight to morning 6 am as long as that stupid NC is held. Only that 6 hours of electricity a day is offered so that people can pump up water during that time.

I don't know if it is the electricity from all Yangon but it doesn't make sense that electric from a big city is transferred just to a small NC area. But these soldiers always do everything which doesn't make sense at all.

So, what do people do? People just sit at their home and curse at damn Junta.

PS: Sorry for no poem Moe Moe. I am busy cursing at Junta.



Update (September 26, 06):

The electric bill man said power was cut for they were repairing underground cables. So, rumour was just rumour. Today, electricity was back most of the time.

I think this rumour happened coz people keep in their mind that this junta always take anything they want from people without thinking how much people are suffering.

လူေတြမွာေတာ့ ဒီစစ္အစိုးရ ဘယ္ေတာ့ ျပဳတ္မလဲ သတင္းအစအနေလးမ်ား ရလိုရျငား ေရဒီယိုေလးေတြကိုင္ နားစြင့္ေနၾကေလရဲ႕။ မနက္ခင္း က်န္းမာေရး ထြက္ လမ္းေ႐ွာက္သူေတြေတာင္ ေရဒီယိုေလးေတြ တကိုင္ကိုင္။

Embedding Flash mp3 player

If you want to embed mp3 music to your blog you can use plugin media players like quicktime, win media player or realplayer. But as for my old PC, the loading of media player plugin used to halt my browser whenever I visit the page with player embedded.

The mp3 player I'm using on this blog is flash player made by Jeroen Wijering [ link]. Since it is flash player, it is very light and use very small system resources.

If you want to use, download the player here. zip file includes necessary files for player, instruction readme file, and source file "fla".

You can use it with two styles; one with playlist and visualization, AND another one for just single song. I used single song style on this blog. it is very simple. [see the demo at "Song of the week" above.]  if u want to use "single song style", u  need to upload "mp3player.swf" only.

Actually, I like the one with playlist and tested it on my google page . But it doesn't read the playlist when I load the player from my blog. I think it might work if  full URL of playlist is refered in swf file. (You can edit source "fla" if you have Flash 8. ) [Can you help me?]

If you think reading readme file is confusing, here is sample code for "single song player".

Now, I'm away from my PC and surfing the Internet from internet cafe where there is no PC with Myanmar font installed. When I cannot read some Myanmar blogs written in Zawgyi-one font, I use this little text box. If you have the same problem like mine, copy the text you want to read, open this page with IE and paste the text into this text box.

Search Attachments

I was thinking to search for the list of mp3 files in my email accounts these days. But, today when I check my yahoo account, I found this "My Attachments" link on side menu. There... I clicked on it. Wow!!! all the attached files are shown with thumbnail previews. cool.

So, how will Gmail do that. I looked in help page for search operators.

• has:attachment » I entered just this operator and searched. all emails with attachment are shown.
• from:david has:attachment » This will show attachments david sent. I entered » from:me has:attachment » These are what I sent.
• Wait, file type I want is mp3. » from:me filename:mp3

Anyway, I know everybody can read help page and do it easily. I just thought what if you didn't notice this functions like me.

My Firefox extensions

Like many bloggers do, I also want to share the Firefox extensions I'm using. I think some of them may be different from the ones you have. Here they are...

• Tab Mix Plus: Tab browsing with an added boost.  This extension has lots of functionalities. It can make single window mode, add closed tabs list button (by clicking it, u can undo close tab), displays tab list at  ctrl+tab, put close button on each tab, session manager, crash recovery functions and so on and so on. You need to change the settings as your own requirement. Ohhh... I can't live without Tab Mix Plus.
• Uppity: Navigate up one level. if you are in http://sub.domain.com/dir1/dir2/dir3/, you can move to upper level you want. may be, you might want to move to top level page http://www.domain.com/
• Flashblock: Replaces Flash objects with a button you can click to view them. As for me, I feel flash ads are annoying. And some flash animations are burning my CPU. So, this extension block flash but I'm always free to see blocked flash by clicking on play button.
• Launchy: Open links with external applications. I want to see page source in Notepad. I want to see current page in Opera browser. Now, my desires are fulfilled. You can add any application u like, such as Nvu, WordPad, IE and whatever relevant. 
• Image toolbar: Provides easy access to common image functions. This one resembles to tool bar which appears when u point on image  in IE . 
• AJAX Yahoo Mail: Yahoo has released new AJAX based version for yahoo.co.uk users now. But I don't like it coz I'm in love with this extension. You can view messages right in ur inbox by clicking a small (+) button. you can do quick reply right under the message. you can scan and download attachment without moving to another page. Virtually, you don't need to move to another page from Inbox.
• Download embedded: download embedded media you like in the web page you are viewing.
• Furl tools and Del.icio.us: of coz if you are user of these sites...
• Download manager tweak: the name says :P
• Web Developer: adds a menu with various web developer tools
• Copy plain text: copy plain text without formatting
• Hyperwords: Makes every words on the web interactive. I use this to open URL without link though it has many functions.
• Colt: adds a copy link text item to the browser’s context menu
• FirefoxView: If you accidentally browsed the web with IE, you can easily move to FF from IE context menu.

Pseudonym or nick name or pen name or keyboard name or whatever you call, I will start to use the name "Myouez" from now on. And another thing I want to say is that there is only one physical blogger in this blog although you might see two contributors. When I started this blog, I thought I would use different pseudonym for different topic but I always login as "Dathana" and the other contributor becomes idle. Anyway, here I am, the same weird guy with different name. :)

UPDATE:
Ammmm.... I'm still Dathana as well as Myouez. :D  And thinking my old thought to blog different topic with different pseudonym. :)

MyMyamar Myanmar Unicode System

MyMyanmar ကို စမ္းသံုးၾကည့္ျဖစ္ ပါတယ္။ Font က input system ကို​လို​က​္ျပီး Unicode အျပည့္ အျဖစ္နဲ႕ေရာ partial အျဖစ္နဲ႕ပါ အလုပ္လုပ္ ပါတယ္။

MyMyanmar ကိုဒီမွာ download လုပ္ပါ။ (font, KB installer, documentation အားလံုးပါတဲ့ self-extract package.)

ကိုလြင္မိုးရဲ႕ site မွာ MyMyanmar, Myanmar1, Padauk စတဲ့ font ေတြနဲ႕ ပတ္သတ္လို႕ standard လို႕ေျပာလို႕ ရမရ စတာေတြကို ေဆြးေႏြးထား ပါတယ္။ ဒီေနရာမွာ ဖတ္ၾကည့္ပါ။ ကြ်န္ေတာ္ကေတာ့ font အားလံုးကို character map တူေစခ်င္ တာပါပဲ။ ဒါမွ font-family ဆိုျပီး အားလံုးကို ထည့္ေရး လို႕ရမွာ။

SPDC challenged people of Myanmar and the world

When I woke up this morning, I sat in front of TV switching BBC and CNN waiting for the good news I was expecting.
But, only bad news I got.

They extended the house arrest of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

This is the insult of SPDC on people of Myanmar. Of course, they have been insulting people for many years. Now, it is reaching the breaking point of people’s tolerance.

When darkness falls

ေန႕စဥ္ ထြက္ေပၚေနက် ေန႕အလင္းေရာင္ ေနာင္တစ္ၾကိမ္ ထြက္ေပၚမလာ ေတာ့ျပီ။
ဘ၀ရဲ႕လမ္း ေတြမွာ အေမွာင္ထုသာ ပိုမို နက္႐ွဳိင္းလာခဲ့တယ္။ အေမွာင္လႊမ္းတဲ့ လမ္းေတြကို ျဖတ္ေလွ်ာက္ရတဲ့အခါ ကြ်န္ေတာ္ဟာ တစ္ေယာက္ထဲပါ။

The Burmese people can't wait much longer

The following is the article written by Ludu (U) Sein Win in yesterday’s issue of international herald tribune. He is one of the most respectful journalists in Myanmar. 65-year-old Ludu (U) Sein Win is living on oxygen supply, and partially paralyzed by a stroke he suffered in prison.

My country is an aborted democracy. It is governed by an interim military regime, which refuses to honor the results of the election held in 1990, when the Burmese chose democracy, transparency and change. Now the regime accuses the struggling democratic opposition in Myanmar, as it has chosen to call the country, of having contact with terrorists.
 
Former political prisoners like me - a circle that is unfortunately quite large - are worried about the fate of our country and fear yet another crackdown. We have very little margin for maneuver.
 
The only legal organized Burmese political opposition is the National League for Democracy, which I helped to found in 1988. But the league's head, the Nobel Peace laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, has been under strict house arrest for the past three years. She has spent 12 of the last 16 years in some form of confinement.

Four Australian men will live in a glass box on a downtown mall for two weeks in June, with the public able to watch them sleeping, eating and bathing, a news report said Thursday.

Honda and Rube Goldberg machine

Today, a friend of mine sent me a video of Honda Accord ad. Actually I’ve seen it on TV a few months ago but I wanted to keep that ad video since then and I remember it a few days ago because of other video on youtube. (btw, they said this video cost $6 million!!!????????? What makes them to cost $6 million??? May be 6 thousand. Huh? Really. It is not worth $6 million. Something wrong here. They must be toooooo stupid to waste $6 million for this video.)

Okay… let me go back to my topic. You know these types of machines are called Rube Goldberg machines.

“A Rube Goldberg machine or device is any exceedingly complex apparatus that performs a very simple task in a very indirect and convoluted way.”

You must have seen these things in Tom & Jerry cartoons. You know, Tom & Jerry used to setup these machines to attack each other. These are really funny and cool.

There is also annual contest held by Purdue University. Last year’s winner took 125 steps to turn on a flashlight. This year’s winner used 215 steps to shred five sheets of paper.

Here is the Japanese machine found on Youtube. It is really cool but I feel it is somewhat similar to domino in action. Because I think Rube Goldberg machine should include several different types of parts.
