BurmaNet as a blog
someone: "bo gyoke, there is a news site called BurmaNet on the Internet!!!!"
General: "Internet????!!! What's that?"
Anyway… They are still trying to put all the archive on the blog. And they still continue old website and mailing list. But I would go with xml feed.

IE, Firefox agree on feed icon
By clicking on it, you will be asked to add “live bookmark”. After adding my site, you can read my blog feed anytime from that bookmark without visiting my site.
Why am I talking this? Coz …
Microsoft’s IE7 RSS team just decided to adopt that orange icon used in Firefox. They made several icons already. After all, they wanted to make some kind of standard for this feed icon. So, they paid a visit to FF team to ask for permission. and FF team happily allowed them to use it. I’m glad they made right decision. Applause for both of the teams for good cooperation.

Irrawaddy: The Faces of Burma 2005
So, here it is. The Faces of Burma 2005.
One person surprised me from the list is “Kyaing Kyaing”, Than Shwe’s wife. So, according to this article, she is controlling Than shwe.

I'm v glad to see Bono in this list. As everybody knows, U2 singer Bono is a great rock singer as well as great humanitarian activist. He also concern for people of Burma and daw Aung San Suu Kyi.
For information about Bill Gates and his wife Melinda's humanitarian works, check their website, gatesfoundation. They are doing great humanitarian works also. For example, their donation for Malaria Research. Malaria is very severe problem for underdeveloped countries like Burma. Medicine companies do not want to invest research on malaria because it won’t be profitable for them.

compassion towards evil
I have nothing to do with this but when I read news this week, I felt that the world is rotating in reverse direction. Because People were condemning Arnold Schwarzenegger for refusing to block the execution of Stanley Tookie Williams.
That Stanley Tookie Williams killed four people in 1978. And since he is the founder of a gang which committed countless brutal killings, he is such a dangerous evil.
For example, look at this:
Williams allegedly said about one of the killings, "You should have heard the way he sounded when I shot him." According to the governor's account, Williams then made a growling noise and laughed for five to six minutes.[link ]
What a dangerous evil he is!!!! He was having appetite from killing. Such an evil. Such a killer.
I believe Arnold Schwarzenegger made right decision by not granting clemency.
But people are protesting Schwarzenegger. European countries condemned a lot. What the hell is happening? Is this compassion towards evil????? I want to ask those people who protest like this… “Will you say/do this if the people who were killed are your family member??? Answer me correctly, genuinely.”

High performance takeoff of an airliner
In this video, they are just demonstrating takeoff I think. Fighter aircrafts used to takeoff with such steep pitch angle. But, airliners cannot do this because of its tail location. So, this plane took off normally. It continued with horizontal flight for a few seconds. And then… wow!!!!!
The owner of this video didn’t give information of this aircraft. So, I searched for this. In the video, the airline is Eurowings. There, I found that, the a/c is Airbus A319-112.
Here are some links I found.

Make Banks Pay for Your Credit Card
Swan bros said, "The money I earn from banks by using this credit card is more than the annual fees I have to pay."
(I don't want to quote much here coz it is hard to tell you what the main point is from a few quotes. But the title is self-explaining.!!!)
Next post by Swanbros is:
Don’t Let The Banks Rob You. Yes, don't let the banks rob you.
Another blogger I want to highlight is Moe Moe.
I had highlighted her blog before. now this is another hit.
There's stains on my tshirt and I'm a mess..
hamm... I don't know what this title means. :) But I can assure you that this post will leave you with some thoughts.
From the post:
But I was looking at this girl's website and she is 15. She was posing like she was on Play boy, all 50 pictures of her. And I was sitting there, looking at her scantily clad clothes that she wore to parties - wow - did I do that when I was living in Torrance, California? - Dude, but I was 21 then - this girl is 15! 15! I didn't know what to do, or think. I wanted to cover her up and tell her, dude, you got to respect yourself.

Partial Face Transplant Performed in France
OMG!!!!!!! I heard last year that face transplant is possible . Now French doctors did it.
From the Yahoo news article:
The woman was mauled by a pet Labrador in May, leaving her with severe facial injuries that her doctors said made it difficult for her to speak and eat. The dog was put down.
The partial face was donated by the family of a woman who was declared brain dead.
The recipient now must take drugs to prevent her body from rejecting the transplant, which Dubernard has said carries "a slightly more elevated risk of cancer."
Dubernard took part in the decision to carry out a partial face transplant despite risks that include the patient's potentially negative psychological reaction to wearing part of someone else's face.
Dubernard led teams that performed a hand transplant in 1998 and the world's first double forearm transplant in January 2000.

AAPPB report
From the press release 66 of AAPPB:
Reacting to the report, Senator John McCain, whose essay “Torture's Terrible Toll” appeared on the cover of Newsweek Magazine in late November, said "My heart goes out to those suffering for their belief in human rights and democracy. This report demonstrates that torture of political prisoners is a state policy of Burma's junta. All Americans, who stand by the Burmese people in their aspirations for freedom, should be outraged." McCain went on to say that the report "Illustrates in painstaking detail yet one more reason why United Nations Security Council action is long overdue. Those who care about human rights and human decency should press the Security Council to take up the issue of Burma immediately."

Myanmar junta extends Daw Aung San Suu Kyi house arrest
And now Than Shwe is doing whatever his fortune teller said to secure his power chair leaving the people in complete chaos. I believe his last time is getting closer. We have a great chance that Burma issue will be discussed at UN Security Council. One way or another, Than Shwe's Myanmar junta will face dead end and left with no other choice but to step down.

ashae ga newin htwet thi pamar
It is one of the best Burmese novels I have ever read. I read this when I was young. In these two three years, I remember it a lot and wanted to read again. Now… it is available to download here.
The story took place at time when students were fighting against English government. I don’t know if it is just about the novelist, (saya) Thein Pe Myint himself. Many characters in the novel are real people we know. It was re-printed several times and translated to 2-3 languages. (if I remember correctly.) It would be better if e-book contain preface from old prints.

my last video post
The First one is YouTube. It is a community site like Flickr. You can also find Burmese music video like this there. I like YouTube coz it allows us to embed the video on our own sites which is, in other term, called remote loading. For example you can play Khin Bone's song "Moe Pyae" here...
Google video: You know, they are every where. And for google video, there are hacks from site like this where you can download/save the video directly. You just need to copy and paste the URL of search page there and it will generate the file link to download. Don’t confuse here. The downloaded file has no file extension. So you need to rename it giving the file extension “.flv”.
Now, the power of bloggers comes. This site, using Technorati, created the most blogged videos on the web list. They also convert the file format to flv which you can watch on that site. But it is your choice. You can also go to original website from the link and see the video in its own format.
Last one is Darlugo. It is a collection of crazy, funny, and interesting video clips.
Except google video which we have a hack, you can save the video you like by copying from “temporary internet files” or “cache” after watching the video. There are some other ways but I think this method is easiest for everyone. Tip: sort by file size. These files are the largest ones there. YouTube files are also needed to be renamed with flv extension.
Finally, there is a Google video blog. It’s all about interesting Google video links.
And... she hates holidays. ohhh... don't be so sad. :-(

Future of PC: part I
1) Rise of the AJAX
Most discussed topic in computer field nowadays is AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML).
AJAX is the key player behind Gmail. As you must have noticed, Gmail is not a classic web page. It is almost like a desktop application because it brings only the updated data from server without refreshing the whole web page.
New version Yahoo! mail will use AJAX extremely and work and look like desktop email clients such as "Outlook express". It is in beta state now. You can read more and see screenshots of Yahoo! mail beta here.
So, now, future of Web is moving towards creating web based applications which can perform like desktop programs. Look at Meebo. It is an IM client made using AJAX. Isn't it cool?
May be one day people will use application softwares on web. Microsoft recently announced the release of live. There are also some other companies trying to make use of AJAX.
So... let's see how AJAX will expand its wings in future.
Some websites which use AJAX:
Meebo
to search eBay
to search Amazon
search music on the fly (from music stores)
Gmail

... And Justice For All
Let’s imagine you are watching such kind of movie. You see people are forced to work under the weapons of rulers. Some people are starving, some people are sick, some people are old but they all were forced to work. (of course leaving their own earning works.)
Ma Su Su Nwae who is suffering from heart disease and Ko Aung Zin Moe, whose wife is about to give birth to a child requested for exemption from the work which they were forced to. But they were threatened to be arrested.
So they, reported to ILO about that and started a lawsuit against local authority. Local court though they did not want to accept the case, accepted due to ILO’s request and arrested the village authorities. (Actually, village authorities were not the ones who made this forced labor. Army did that!!!)
(from NDD WINC issue 183)
After this lawsuit, local authorities created a fake accusation to Ma Su Su Nwae and after a long trial, they sentenced her to one and half years in jail.
This is the animosity of a government towards it’s own citizen.

The Island
I watched "the Island" yesterday.
The movie stole ideas from "The Matrix".
1) The way they grow people. Even the way they take out the grown up human from the pod is the same. (okay.. they might argue that this is the way to grow human in theory.)
2) The scene where the bots are inserted is exactly the same with the scene when agent Smith inserts a bug into Neo.
3) finally...
In Matrix... "I am Neo"
In Island... "I am Lincoln"
ha ha ha shameless copies.
Technology is very much advanced in that era. But the motorbike like that will not fly in reality.
I don't understand why mini-bots came out when urinate. (with the technology at that time described, these should be nanobots which can be simply injected into blood vessel. They will be able to trevel even into the head. Now the bots in the movie are quite big. The scene in the movie is just to horrify the audience.)
Anyway, it is a good movie to watch. I recommend you. The chase scene is awesome.
Annnnnnnd. The actress, Scarlett Johansson, is very beautiful in this movie.

Surface tension
From Visions of Science photographic awards:
Einstein Year Award: 1st Prize
Surface
tension
by Robert Anderson
The surface tension of water can support even a metal paperclip. By photographing it using a grill in front of the light source, the deformation of the water caused by the clip's weight can be seen. This bending of light is similar to the bending of light by strong gravitational fields, as predicted by Einstein's theories. Surface tension is due to an attraction between the molecules in water, which cause its surface to act in an elastic manner.

Musical breasts
Musical breasts
From the article:
Breast enhancements need not only be about looks and sex appeal. They could soon have a functional purpose too.
A company is currently developing a microchip that stores music files and can be built into a breast implant, the Sun reports.
BT Futurology apparently intend on developing a musical double act for the bosoms, which would see an MP3 player installed in one mammary, and music files in the other.
The whole ensemble could then be managed via Bluetooth wireless technology.
Company analyst Ian Pearson said: "It is now very hard for me to think of breast implants as just decorative.
"If a woman has something implanted permanently, it might as well do something useful."

Myanmar Unicode - Correction
Now I learnt that "Myanmar1" is the only font which complies with Unicode standard.
Actually, myanmar1 font renders the mendials (ya-pint, ya-yit) with the combination of a-thet, ္, and ya ( ယ and ရ ) respectively. က+ ္+ရ = က္ရ . And subscripts also do the same thing. a-thet, ္, and letter itself.
For “Mandalay”, မ+န+ ္ +တ+ ေလး = မန္တလေး. This is the linguistic approach for mendials and subscripts. For normal ္ they add zero width non-joiner (200C)
no no, I’m not saying that u gotta type like that. Truetype Open font will automatically do it for you. .
Fig: http://www.macchiato.com/unicode/chart/
Fig: myanmar_uni.pdf
“ေ” does a beautiful trick here. It is arranged to be typed after consonant coz Unicode standard states that vowels are stored after the consonant. But I think, it is also useful for line braking. For word processing, Myanmar do not have space between words for line brakes. First method is to regard as a break before consonant. Now ya-yit and “ေ” come after consonant not like before. Looks like it is solved. But there are more to consider. Read this pdf file for detail.

Myanmar Unicode - ya-yit
Since mystery of ya-yit in “myanmar1” font I discussed fascinated me, I tried to find the ya-yit in character set of myanmar1. Eventually I found that there is no ya-yit at all. Instead, “Ya” and “a-thet” combined to form ya-yit. Like this: for “kya” and “cha”, က ္ ရ
ခ ္ ရ. I put spaces between these characters to split them. If I remove spaces, they combined again to render as ya-yit.
Now, getting more mysterious.

Myanmar Unicode - continued
So… Let me continue my Unicode story.
Yesterday, after I wrote the update on my previous
post, I found this post by Waipyo and also
Lynn seck emailed me about this
site.
Advantages of this keyboard installer is that it is quite smart for ya-yit.
first, I can type as I write (i.e. first ka and later ya-yit) and second, the size of ya-yit is automatically chosen. And ေ also act a bit strangely.
Disadvantages: font myanmar1 does not include subscript characters. Lots of spaces in character map are left blank. I can’t even type “Mandalay”, မႎၨေလး. Check
this if you want to know how many characters we need.
And some characters are different from other unicode fonts like Myazedi, BIT and UniBurma.
I think Myazedi, BIT and UniBurma are better. ohhh I'm confused. Give me a standard and complete one.

Myanmar Unicode typing tool
For not having a keyboard to type Burmese in Unicode, I made a typing page last week . Though is is not smart, it must be useful to some instance. (Please... I'm not a computer guy.) But I will also try to make it accept keyboard input later. I promise. :)
BTW, i'd talked about this here (in comments) and here before. As I said there, ponNya_web and keyman worked somehow. But the character set is different.
Yesterday, I found this project on sourceforge. I tried it and it works. So go there and download fonts and keyboard installer. First install fonts then install the KB. After that do as instructed in readme file. [For WIN XP... Start > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Language Tab > Details > English(United States) > Add/Remove > Myanmar(Burmese) After that, from lower left button... language bar> show language bar on desktop] . That's it.

Free your mind
Neo: But if you already know, how can I make a choice?
The Oracle: Because you didn't come here to make the choice, you've already made it. You're here to try to understand why you made it.
The Oracle: We're all here to do what we're all here to do. I'm interested in one thing, Neo, the future. And believe me, I know - the only way to get there is together.
Neo: Are there other programs like you?
The Oracle: Oh, well, not like me. But... Look, see those birds? At some point a program was written to govern them. A program was written to watch over the trees, and the wind, the sunrise, and sunset. There are programs running all over the place. The ones doing their job, doing what they were meant to do, are invisible. You'd never even know they were here. But the other ones, well, we hear about them all the time.
Neo: I've never heard of them.
The Oracle: Of course you have. Every time you've heard someone say they saw a ghost, or an angel. Every story you've ever heard about vampires, werewolves, or aliens is the system assimilating some program that's doing something they're not supposed to be doing.
Neo: Programs hacking programs. Why?
The Oracle: They have their reasons, but usually a program chooses exile when it faces deletion.

Your mobile phone will know how you walk
From the article:
Finnish researchers presented new technology designed to prevent thefts of mobile phones and laptops, using biometrics to recognize the gait of the device's owner. A sensor-based so-called "gaitcode" embedded in the device registers and memorizes the movements of the owner in three-dimensional form, and is reliable in 90 percent of cases, the researchers said Thursday.
If it does not recognize the walk, it asks for a password. If given an incorrect password, the device automatically locks itself down.

OS on a floppy
This very small OS called MenuetOS is so small that it can fit into a floppy disk which we can call it live diskette. One important fact is that it is not based on any kind of Unix or Linux kernel. It was written from scratch. Though I couldn't access my HD, GUI is quite impressive for such a small one. You should take a look. Ohhh... come on!!! please don't say you don't have floppy drive.!!![via]

Wake Me Up When September Ends
here comes the rain again
falling from the stars
drenched in my pain again
becoming who we are
as my memory rests
but never forgets what I lost
wake me up when september ends
summer has come and passed
the innocent can never last
wake me up when september ends
ring out the bells again
like we did when spring began
wake me up when september ends
here comes the rain again
falling from the stars
drenched in my pain again
becoming who we are
as my memory rests
but never forgets what I lost
wake me up when september ends
Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
wake me up when september ends

Try searching the word "failure" on Google.
okey... it reach to "Biography of President George W. Bush" at this moment.
It happened last year for the word "miserable failure" too.

Googlebombing 'failure'
9/16/2005 12:54:00 PM
Posted by Marissa Mayer, Director of Consumer Web Products
If you do a Google search on the word [failure] or the phrase [miserable failure], the top result is currently the White House’s official biographical page for President Bush. We've received some complaints recently from users who assume that this reflects a political bias on our part. I'd like to explain how these results come up in order to allay these concerns.
Google's search results are generated by computer programs that rank web pages in large part by examining the number and relative popularity of the sites that link to them. By using a practice called googlebombing, however, determined pranksters can occasionally produce odd results. In this case, a number of webmasters use the phrases [failure] and [miserable failure] to describe and link to President Bush's website, thus pushing it to the top of searches for those phrases. We don't condone the practice of googlebombing, or any other action that seeks to affect the integrity of our search results, but we're also reluctant to alter our results by hand in order to prevent such items from showing up. Pranks like this may be distracting to some, but they don't affect the overall quality of our search service, whose objectivity, as always, remains the core of our mission.

or since 1962?
in Burma...
Zombie
Another head hangs lowly,
Child is slowly taken.
And the violence caused such silence,
Who are we mistaken?
But you see, it's not me, it's not my family.
In your head, in your head they are fighting,
With their tanks and their bombs,
And their bombs and their guns.
In your head, in your head, they are crying...
In your head, in your head,
Zombie, zombie, zombie,
Hey, hey, hey. What's in your head,
In your head,
Zombie, zombie, zombie?
Hey, hey, hey, hey, oh, dou, dou, dou, dou, dou...
Another mother's breakin',
Heart is taking over.
When the vi'lence causes silence,
We must be mistaken.
It's the same old theme since nineteen-sixteen.
In your head, in your head they're still fighting,
With their tanks and their bombs,
And their bombs and their guns.
In your head, in your head, they are dying...
In your head, in your head,
Zombie, zombie, zombie,
Hey, hey, hey. What's in your head,
In your head,
Zombie, zombie, zombie?
Hey, hey, hey, hey, oh, oh, oh,
Oh, oh, oh, oh, hey, oh, ya, ya-a...

Satellite imagery
Let me give two links for Google Earth users.
First one is Google Earth Hacks and second one is Google Sightseeing. Check them out!!!
And if you like Google Earth, you should also try this World wind developed by NASA.
About World wind Kate Russell from BBC wrote:
NASA's Goddard Space Flight Centre has produced a set of fascinating animations that demonstrate a variety of subjects such as hurricane dynamics and seasonal changes across the globe. Just like Google Earth, though, the real draw is the graphics. For example, have you ever wondered what it would be like to fly through the Grand Canyon or across the Swiss Alps? World Wind uses NASA's Landsat satellite imagery and Shuttle Radar Topography Mission data to allow you to zoom in from orbit and actually fly into and through famous landmarks and geographical wonders. Its full functions are way too complex to cover here so I will give you the best tip possible to get you started: launch the application and click Help followed by Key Chart. Be sure to explore all the different rotational and zoom options for the absolute best results.Ohhh... don't ask me. I haven' try it yet. I'm quite busy these days and trying to run such kind of application would be time consuming on a antique PC like mine. And... Here are two links I took to compare Google and MSN online satellite images. . http://virtualearth.msn.com/default.aspx?cp=34... tip: close "welcome" box to get wider view. . http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=34.031465,-118...
